10 Questions With… Roar Founder Pallavi Dean

Pallavi Dean is the founder and creative director of Roar, a Dubai-based interior design studio. The firm’s design approach is “deeply rooted in empathy and creating experiences for the user of the space” she says. “When we describe our firm we always say it is 50 percent wild and 50 percent tame. The tame side is the scientific research side, the wild side is the artistic part.” Dean studied architecture, graphic design and set design as well as interior design. We spend about 86 percent of our time indoors, maybe 95 percent now with COVID, so I thought if I really wanted to make an impact, interiors would be the best fit.” Dean grew up in the UAE to Indian parents and has a British husband. “I always think these are the three cultures that have really collided to shape me as a designer.”

Erie Canal Harbor Development Corp. met Monday and took several actions, including exterior signage design approval for the Buffalo Heritage Carousel (BHC) and longshed at Canalside.

“These actions further advance the Buffalo Heritage Carousel and longshed projects, which are key elements of the Canalside site as it is built out,” ECHDC Chairman Robert Gioia said. “The new signage is consistent with Canalside’s design guidelines and will complement other signage on the site.”

The Buffalo Heritage Carousel has proposed a full-color sign displaying the carousel name, KeyBank (BHC funding sponsor), and Canalside logos. Located on the southeast corner facing Main Street, the 5-by-7-foot sign will be framed in wood that matches the carousel gazebo’s exterior. An additional metal sign, displaying a description of the carousel and its operating hours, will also be placed on a wood

STM star receiver Jack Bech plans on special encore performance in senior season | High Schools

    Jack Bech isn’t done yet.

After only one season as a full-time starter at St. Thomas More, Bech already ranks third in yards receiving in school history.

As a junior, the Vanderbilt commitment caught 91 passes for 1,668 yards and 20 touchdowns in helping the Cougars finish 11-2 along with the Division II state championship.

“I don’t think Jack is done,” STM offensive coordinator Shane Savoie said. “I think there needs to be another growth spurt this season, not only as a wide receiver but as a leader. And then in other areas where he can help our team.”

Savoie says fans have come to STM games just to watch Bech.

For the 30 days leading to high school football season, we’re previewing the Acadiana area teams.

“He’s obviously done things on the field that have set him apart,” Savoie said. “People have come to games to see him play.

While consumers continue to embrace the crossover utility vehicle with its unibody design, there are still a few hardy, traditional body-on-frame SUVs available, including the venerable Toyota 4Runner.

Now in its fifth generation, the 4Runner dates to 1984, but today’s version is so much more advanced that it’s pretty much the standard-bearer among family-friendly SUVs when it’s in its real element – the off-road environment.

The midsize 4Runner returned for 2020 a new TRD off-road model called the Venture Special Edition, designed with for ridge-runners and sand-crawlers.

For 2020, the Venture starts at $44,385, and for 2021, it begins at $44,620 (plus $1,175 freight). For this report, we tested the 2020 model, but the 2021s will be available soon, Toyota says, and there are no key changes.

The Venture model is somewhat above the mid-point in the 4Runner lineup, and comes
