Doubling Down on a Modern Farmhouse Design on Long Island

A quick decision to relocate turned into an epic renovation for Ted and Loren Kobus.

Moving to the New York City area from Greater Philadelphia in 2012 for Mr. Kobus’s work, the couple bought a 1960s split-level home on the North Shore of Long Island, then radically changed the house—twice.

Last year, after an art- and furniture-buying spree, they finally considered the project finished. They ended up with a two-story modern farmhouse that bears little resemblance to the original.

The two, now in their early 50s, live there with their three children, now all teenagers.

The couple paid $839,000 for the 3,500-square-foot, four-bedroom original home on 2 acres, situated not far from Huntington Bay. They then spent the first few years, and some $900,000, to add 1,500 square feet to the house, including the second story, a new kitchen and new bathrooms. Starting in 2016, they spent $100,000 to re-landscape

Boiled down to the essentials, a proper deer camp requires only a few things: a source of fire for cooking and warmth; coffee in the morning and sipping liquor in the evening to enjoy around said fire; and a gun rack—the centerpiece of camp.

Mercedes: Next-generation GLA ‘model of modern lightweight steel construction’

Mercedes this summer announced 72 percent of the next-generation 2021 GLA’s body would be high-strength or even tougher steels, calling the vehicle “a model of modern lightweight steel construction.”

Mercedes also noted in a July 23 news release that it galvanized nearly all the “metal sheets of the painted bodyshell” of the entry-level SUV.

The OEM described connecting body steels with “spot welding, clinching and MIG soldering” — and “increasingly” joining them with adhesives. The last of these contributed rigidity and improved noise and vibration, Mercedes said.

Aluminum found a home on the SUV’s chassis as well. The MacPherson front suspension incorporates cast aluminum steering knuckles and an aluminum wishbone, according to Mercedes.

The SUV’s body manages collision energy through tailored parts and multi-piece designs, Mercedes wrote.

“The structural sections or load paths have a multi-piece design,” the OEM wrote. “In addition, the bodyshell uses tailored products with different material

Antiques & Collecting: Recent auction included modern pieces by Italian designer | News, Sports, Jobs

Despite looking as if it was styled using an axe, the Tesla Cybertruck has created a design trend among motorists.

Some (more or less) cheap replicas have been spotted roaming the streets and turning heads, but this two-door coupe, inspired by the electric pickup, won’t be attracting any attention outside the digital realm, simply because it does not exist.

The illustrations, created by Matteo Gentile, portray an electric sports coupe, which is dubbed the CyberCoupe. It follows in the footsteps of the Cybertruck, although with cleaner looking front and rear sections and bigger LED light strips at both ends, and makes do without the fender flares and apocalyptic-looking wheels shod in chunky rubber.

With a few mods and a black paint finish, we reckon that it would make for an interesting KITT movie car, because

Historic home gets modern updates | News, Sports, Jobs

This French chateau-style home started out as a Victorian home but has transformed itself once again with modern amenities and inspired interior design. LORENA BENIQUEZ/West Branch Life

With so many architectural jewels on Williamsport’s Grampian Boulevard, it is tough competition to standout — but one French chateau does just that. Located at 235 Grampian Blvd., the historic home recently got an update with new technology and daring design.

“It has a modern floor plan that preserves the historical features,” said Fish Real Estate Agent Denise Reis, who is familiar with the home.

Built in 1898, the home has a storied past with prominent families such as the Plakenhorns and Lundys residing there. “This is a landmark home because when the Plankenhorns bought it, they bought a lot of acreage around it,” said Reis. That land later grew to become the residential community of Grampian Hills.

Originally, the home was a

2021 Dacia Logan

The full reveal is scheduled for September 29.

Following a preview last week, Dacia has published the first official images of the third-generation Sandero. We’ll have to wait until the end of the month for full details and a complete gallery, so these images will have to suffice for now. Shown alongside the regular supermini is the Sandero Stepway, a crossover take on the subcompact hatchback to capitalise on the SUV boom that shows no signs of slowing down.

With a far more modern design and a switch to the latest Renault Clio platform, the Sandero is literally an all-new car. Dacia is being coy on details for the time being, but it does mention the car has a wider track now and a lower roofline. Finally, the door handles are no longer hinged at the top and there’s a new Y-shaped light signature
