Union County Opens Submissions to Design Marsha P Johnson Monument

ELIZABETH, NJ – The Union County Board of Chosen Freeholders is inviting artists to submit designs for the Marsha P. Johnson monument that will be erected on Elizabeth’s freedom trail.

Submissions will be accepted until December 15. The county is looking for artists with professional sculpture experience and a previous work reference. The budget range for the project is between $100,000 and $200,000. The full project description and design criteria can be found on the Union County website for LGBTQ+ affairs.

Mercedes: Next-generation GLA ‘model of modern lightweight steel construction’

Mercedes this summer announced 72 percent of the next-generation 2021 GLA’s body would be high-strength or even tougher steels, calling the vehicle “a model of modern lightweight steel construction.”

Mercedes also noted in a July 23 news release that it galvanized nearly all the “metal sheets of the painted bodyshell” of the entry-level SUV.

West Hartford council discusses accessory dwelling units

At a special meeting on Sept. 21, the West Hartford Town Council heard a report from town staff on accessory dwelling units, for the purposes of forming a zoning ordinance.

Town Planner Todd Dumais said the dwelling units are often referred to by other names, including accessory apartments, granny flats, guest houses, cottages, and in-law suites, and is defined as a residential unit that shares a single-family lot with a larger, primary unit.

Ballard Designs, a catalog and online retailer of furniture and home decor, will open a store in the Houston market in River Oaks Shopping Center.

The Atlanta-based omnichannel retailer will take over the 10,000-square-foot space previously occupied by Gap Stores in February, the company announced.
