If you have grass in your garden, you probably know that it requires a lot of maintenance. Grass is a natural product that is very sensitive to damage. In the summer you will see dry patches forming and in the winter it can break down due to cold temperatures. That is why it is important to know how to maintain your grass throughout the year. Would you like to know more about that? Then read this blog.
January to March
In the first part of the year, January to March, you can better avoid doing too much with the grass in terms of sowing. You are much better off using these months to test the soil to measure the pH level for example. If it is poor, you can spread lime to improve it. In addition, you can perform maintenance such as mowing and scarifying the lawn. If necessary, you can choose to fertilize the lawn as well.
April to June
The spring season is perfect if you want to let the grass grow with new grass seed. It is best to use these months to allow bald spots to grow back. These months are so good for this because the temperatures are mild and there is plenty of rain. However, you should take into account that you will need to mow the grass a little more often during these months. Think about mowing twice a week when the humidity is high.
July through August
During summer, i.e. months from July to August, temperatures can rise significantly. It’s a good idea to let the grass grow a little longer so it can better withstand high temperatures. Also, be sure to water the lawn well during these months. Do not do this when the sun is still shining directly on the grass, but when the sun has already partially set. If you do it when the sun is still shining hard, the grass can burn and of course you don’t want that! You should also fertilize the grass regularly during these months.
October to November
In the last part of the year we have to deal with falling leaves and branches again. Make sure that you remove these properly from the lawn. You can do this by scarifying and using a moss killer among other things. It is important that the lawn is healthy going into the winter, so that there is less chance of damage. So fertilize the lawn well from time to time.
